Fallen Timbers Battlefield

In 1794, General “Mad Anthony” Wayne defeated a coalition of Native American forces at Fallen Timbers, which opened up the Northwest Territory (Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin) to American settlers.

Some photos from a visit to the battlefield and memorial.

The park

A memorial honoring both the American troopers and the Native American warriors

According to tradition, the Native leader Turkey Foot was killed at this rock

For almost 200 years, this area was thought to be the battle site…..

But then an amateur archaeologist with a metal detector found battle relics at this spot, about a quarter mile away, which turned out to be the actual battlefield

Today the actual battle site is protected from treasure-hunters
