The Moss Mansion

The Moss Mansion, in Billings MT, is the home built by local banker Preston B Moss. The architect was  RJ Hardenbergh, who also designed the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York. Today the Moss Mansion is run as a museum by a local nonprofit preservation society. Nearly all the interior furnishings are original.

Here are some photos of the house (alas, there was no photography permitted inside).

The Moss Mansion. It used to be located at the edge of the city, but is now surrounded by downtown.

The house was built with red sandstone and clay roof tiles

Some of the stained glass windows were later bricked up from the inside.

  1. Me too. Some of those old furnishings–like the oldstyle toilets with the water tank mounted up near the ceiling–are really cool. 🙂

I think they are concerned about the camera flash damaging some of the stuff. Many of the carpets and draperies already have light damage from sunlight (so they keep the curtains closed to keep light out).
